Literasi berasal dari kata literatur yang memiliki arti kemampuan membaca, melihat, menalar dan mengamati. Dengan Literasi seseorang dituntut punya kemampuan untuk dapat menggunakan potensi serta keterampilan dalam mengolah serta memahami informasi saat melakukan kegiatan membaca dan menulis. penguasaan literasi ini akan dapat meningkatkan prestasi generasi muda dalam mencapai kesuksesan, karena hal itu akan dapat mewujudkan peran generasi muda dalam aspek pembangunan bangsa.
Bagaimana cara kita sebagai penerus bangsa untuk memperbaiki karakter anak bangsa saat ini ? Jawaban atas pertanyaan tersebut perlu kita cari solusinya. Salah satunya dengan menggalakkan program gerakan literasi. Dengan gerakan literasi diharapkan mampu menjadi sarana pembentuk pola pikir, sikap, dan perilaku anak bangsa, karena semakin baik pola pikir seseorang maka akan semakin baik pula karakter orang tersebut,Walaupun dalam kenyataannya sungguh miris jika kita melihat fakta yang terjadi di Indonesia. Di era globalisasi saat ini banyak karakter anak bangsa yang sudah jauh dari nilai-nilai moral dan agama serta kurangnya minat membaca dan menulis. Dari fenomena tersebut maka Pemerintah harus menggencarkan program gerakan literasi ini. Salah satunya melalui sekolah-sekolah yang ada di Indonesia.
Kurikulum 2013 yang merupakan pengembangan dari kurikulum 2006 adalah sebagai bentuk penguatan pendidikan karakter dan gerakan literasi. Dua hal itu sangat penting diintegrasikan dalam kurikulum 2013, karena kondisi bangsa yang tengah mengalami krisis karakter dan mengalami rendahnya minat baca. Implementasi kurikulum 2013 itu sendiri bertujuan untuk membekali siswa dengan kompetensi abad 21, seperti kemampuan berkomunikasi, berkolaborasi, berpikir kritis, kreatif, dan inovatif. Sedangkan budaya literasi digulirkan sebagai upaya meningkatkan minat baca siswa yang masih rendah.
Dalam pelaksanaan kurikulum 2013, kegiatan literasi merupakan salah satu kegiatan yang wajib untuk dilaksanakan guna menumbuhkan kesadaran siswa akan pentingnya membaca dan menambah ilmu pengetahuan. Gerakan literasi ini juga sudah diterapkan di SMA Negeri 1 Margasari, termasuk dalam pelajaran bahasa Indonesia.. Siswa dituntut untuk meliterasi buku, baik buku fiksi maupun buku non fiksi . Siswa melaksanakan literasi 15 menit sebelum jam pelajaran yang dibuktikan dengan jurnal literasi yang dimiliki setiap siswa. Siswa juga wajib mengunjungi perpustakaan sekolah dan membaca buku-buku yang tersedia di perpustakaan. Kegiatan ini bertujuan memanfaatkan perpustakaan untuk menumbuhkan kegemaran membaca. Cara lain dari bentuk literasi yang diterapkan di SMA negeri 1 Margasari adalah satu jam wajib baca (seminggu sekali). siswa membaca buku yang disukai, kemudian membuat jurnal membaca, dilanjutkan dengan membuat resume dan yang terakhir menceritakan isi buku di depan kelas dan di depan teman-temannya. Selain itu Literasi juga dapat dilakukan dengan cara membaca buku cerita untuk membiasakan peserta didik membaca buku sastra. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dengan cara membaca buku cerita, membuat ringkasan isi cerita, membuat bahan presentasi dan menceritakan kembali isi dari buku yang dibaca di depan teman-teman di depan kelas., membuat mading kelas yang setiap minggunya ada penggantian isi dari mading sesuai dengan kreativitas masing-masing siswa.
Itulah beberapa contoh program gerakan literasi yang dilakukan di SMA Negeri 1 Margasari. Sekalipun kegiatan belajar mengajar ini hanya berlangsung selama jam-jam efektif di sekolah. Tetapi yang namanya penumbuhan budaya literasi itu bukan hanya tugas dari sekolah saja, tetapi keluarga juga harus mendukungnya sehingga akan tercipta budaya literasi sejak dini.
Dengan demikian, bercermin pada rendahnya budaya literasi kita, maka sudah saatnya kita sadar bahwa budaya literasi yang dimulai dari dalam rumah, di lingkungan tempat tinggal, dan di lingkungan sekolah itu sangat penting. Mari kita membangun gerakan literasi ini sebagai basis yang menggaransi lahirnya generasi kita yang berkarakter.
